| Watch your speed. For every mile per hour you drive over 50, mileage decreases roughly one percent. Proper tire inflation and wheel alignment decrease road resistance and increase mileage. Keep a small shovel and a bag of kitty litter or sand in your vehicle during the winter. Simply shovel the snow away from your tire and throw down a little sand or litter to give your tires traction. Electrical or duct tape can be used for a leaky hose in an extreme emergency so that you can make it to a service facility.
